The Daniel Horne Sketchbook Though entitled "Volume 1", the 20 years since its release have not seen another one. Two paintings on the front & back covers, 54 full-page drawings and another 10 pages of two-or-more images. A little more than a handful of the works are pretty 'sketchy', while the rest are detailed & complex, needing only inking to get them from dark pencil pieces to finished glory. Some of the selections are sketch versions of paintings you'll recognize, if you've seen this artist's pieces. There's a healthy sampling of his other work with character design and children's books and almost all subjects are in the fantasy vein, with a whimsical thread running through about half. Some topless women appear among the fantasy and fantastical character studies. Most images are accompanied by some personal comment or explanation. There needs to be a collection of this man's paintings, but this will have to hold us until that comes about.
