Girls On Top ! - The Pin-up Art Of Matt Dixon
(2010 - SQP (Sal Quartuccio Publications))

A high ranking SQP collection with paintings on every page, including the back cover and one of the inner linings.  There are a couple paragraphs from the artist, elaborating on his attraction to women of attitude and one 'how-to' page, showing his process of taking one idea from sketch lay-out to fully realized image.  Many, but not all, of the paintings are captioned with titles.  Of the book's 50 pages, 48 are full-page paintings (with 20 of those being full-bleeds) capturing striking images of bobbysoxers, punk-music stars, barbarians, savages, witches, fairies, nymphs, nurses and nuns cavorting with dragons, devils & tentacled aliens.  Most of the girls' assets are fetchingly covered and there is almost no real nudity to speak of.

Found comments:   "I like this artist's style. It's reminiscent of Chiodo's style, especially the way he paints the eyes amid his colors. I am looking forward to seeing more of his work in the future." "I like this man's style... provocative without being porn and shows women in comical yet enviable situations." "I've seen Matt Dixon's art in a number of other venues previous to this book (including the art tutorial book FANTASY ARTIST'S FIGURE DRAWING BIBLE: READY-TO-DRAW CHARACTERS AND STEP-BY-STEP RENDERING TECHNIQUES, which he wrote & illustrated and, having admired his work, decided to take a look at this book. I was not disappointed. This art book - oversized, printed on thick, glossy paper, with good-quality printing in full color - showcases Dixon's pin-up art. His images tend to be of edgier, more violently-inclined women - many are barbarians, space-marines, axe-murderers, mutants, etc. - but what you really admire is his style: each painting has its own personality and a vibrant, well-controlled color scheme. Several of his paintings, I was interested to see, had a subdued vibe, similar to those of Brom, with a touch of Simon Bisley. He shifts in tone between stillness and energy, which is great to see in fantasy and horror painting. Overall, I'm very pleased with this book." "Inside it states, 'A bad attitude is a thing of beauty!' This is the crux of Matt's paintings, so if you are after well-behaved, helpless and mindless women then leave now, you will not find them here. These girls are buxom, sexy, scantly clad, drop dead gorgeous, and the themes are many and varied, but they do have a 100% case of bad ATTITUDE. There are still bikinis, breasts and all the rest that others have, but also, ass-kicking, fun loving and lots of action. . . There is a short article in front about Matt's attitude and a step-by-step on how to draw a drinkerbell in the back. So, if you prefer your women with a bad attitude, then this book is for you. Your life may not be the same after you flick through this first volume of Girls on Top of their world." "Cool art - has a new school feel to it - wish it had a little bit more art, in it felt little short." "SQP never fails when it comes to presenting the best pin-up artists in the business and their latest incredible discovery is UK artist Matt Dixon. SQP presents the work of Dixon in this first collection of full-color art. Dixon's style is intoxicating. He combines the playful sexiness of Fastner & Larson with the style of some of the great old pros of pin-up art such as Gil Elvgren, Zoe Mozert, and Rolf Armstrong. Dixon's women all seem like they are having a great time in his illustrations, even when the subject matter may be a bit morbid . . . Some of his pieces . . . have a strong Frazetta influence. Babes with big, BIG guns abound throughout as Dixon's work includes examples in the horror, sci-fi, and fantasy genres. . . Great work from cover-to-cover by a tremendous talent!"
