SQP's Dave Nestler books Nestler Girls vol.1 The Art Of Dave Nestler - Wicked Intentions (SQP (Sal Quartuccio Publications))
Various SQP releases that gather the art produced by Dave Nestler over the years, ranked here with the best presentation first, to the least so on the bottom.
Nestler Girls vol.1 (2008) This Dave Nestler monograph edged out the other by having just a few more of its pages dedicated to the man's art - for a total of 47 out of the book's 48. The back inner cover is promotional for other SQP books, but it promotes by having small color excerpts from them. There are no captions nor index page in this volume. Drawings make up a little less than half the art. A handful of the paintings feature women tangled up in the black rubber tape that was a staple of his at the time. The rest of them are mainly straight pin-up, but there are some with fantasy elements, showcasing the girls as angels, devils, metalheads, mutants, monsters and catholic schoolgirls. There's definitely some fem attitude going on here and the spanking gag is cute, but nothing really moves the salacious needle at all, so it doesn't get hidden away.
The Art Of Dave Nestler - Wicked Intentions (2002) Note that the European ART PREMIERE DELUXE # 6 seems to be the same book. All of the 41 paintings presented in this 48-page book are given their own page, and more than half are presented as full-bleeds. 20 are from a series of works that the artist entitled "Blonde and Gagged", where a number of models are portrayed with, or wrapped-in, an endless black ribbon (seemingly rubber). The fact that none of them seem to register any peril, threat or self-consciousness, has the effect of removing them from an adult-themes realm into a more traditional art one (though I couldn't declare that their visages are completely 'innocent' either. . .). The rest of the images head into costume pin-up, being fire-women, rocket-riders, jungle-explorers, swamp-bathers, ghouls, graduates, angels and vampires. There is one double-page spread here that isn't terrible, as it keeps the subject off of the book's gutter. The handful of text pages are an introduction to the artist and his work. It ends with a page of captioning for the displayed works, including the titles, the creation years, sizes and frequently the models' names.
