One Hundred Years Of Science Fiction Illustration (by Anthony Frewin) Note that one of the several editions of this did not spell out the title, being instead 100 YEARS OF SCIENCE FICTION ILLUSTRATION. This 128-page book has 89 featuring the art - 57 of those spotlighting large reproductions. 18 more unfortunately presented color magazine covers in black-&-white, and another 4 pages displayed the ads you would find in these periodicals. The chapters are: Juggling With Infinity (Jean-Jacques Grandville), Frolics In The Future (Albert Robida), By Pullman Car To Venus (Victorians . . . And Others!), The Pterodactyl Has Gotten Into The Transformer! (Amazing), There Must Be A Scientific Explanation! (Astounding), In A Cosmic(?) Colony, Galaxy Of Startling Marvels, Highways And Byways In . . . Mechanix!, and Small Ad Charivari. While there is in each some introductory narrative, it is in the voluminous captions that is told the real story of Sci-Fi's 1880 publication beginnings through to its then current celebration in the early 1970s. Some readers may be less interested in the numerous engraving-ish illustrations from the first quarter of the time-period, but ultimately there's a pretty good balance of both drawings and full-color pulp magazine covers. Those artists that are 'well-presented' here are: Jack Binder, Howard V. Brown (3), Harry Grant Dart, Elliot Dold (3), Serge Drigin (3), Jean-Jacques Grandville (10), Gordon Grant, Fred T. Jane, Mark Marchioni, John Nicholson, Frank R. Paul (12), W.J. Roberts, Arthur Robida (5), Hubert Rogers, Wallace Saaty, Wesso (4), and UNKNOWN (5). other Sci-Fi art collections Planet Of The Apes Artist Tribute Tomorrow And Beyond - Masterpieces Of Science Fiction Art Worlds Beyond Time - Sci-Fi Art Of The 1970s The New Visions - A Collection Of Modern Science Fiction Art Infinite Worlds - The Fantastic Visions Of Science Fiction Art 2000 A.D. - Illustrations From The Golden Age Of Science Fiction Pulps Collectors Press's Sci-Fi collections Encyclopedia Of Science Fiction Fantastic Science Fiction Art 1926-1954 A Pictorial History Of Science Fiction Bradbury - An Illustrated Life Alien Invasions!
