(by Jacques Sadoul) Originally a French release from 2 years previous, this translation sports eight chapters: The Great Galactics, The Age Of Robots, Space Ships, The Women Of The Cosmos, Dream Weapons, The Bestiary Of Outer Space, The Machines Of The Future, and The Cities Of The Future. Note that the Brian Miller cover for the American edition is a re-working & combining of the elements of two different pieces by Virgil Finlay and W.H. Hinton. At 8-by-10.5-inches, it is just a bit smaller than usual, but it still contains 176 pages with 53 gathering together multiple art images and 89 featuring large reproductions. Those large, 'well-presented' reproductions are by: Louis Biedermann, Hannes Bok (5), Elliot Dold (7), Gene Fawcette, Virgil Finlay (11), Robert Fuqua (2), Julian S. Krupa (2), Alexander Leydenfrost (4), Mark Marchioni (3), Brian Miller, Leo Morey (7), C.A. Murphy, Ramon Naylor, Tom O'Reilly, Frank R. Paul (6), E. W. Potter, Peter Poulton, Charles Schneeman, J. Allen St. John, Lawrence Sterne Stevens (5), Bill Terry, Ed Valigursky, J.M. Walsh, H.W. Wesso (5), and UNKNOWN. Eight pages are in color leaving the rest of the book black-&-white, being mostly the incredible drawings that accompanied the actual stories within the pulp magazines (unfortunately, a handful of these pages are b-&-w presentations of color pulp covers). 13 of the drawings spread across both pages, but less than half do so successfully.
