The New Visions - A Collection Of Modern Science Fiction Art
                                             (1982 - Doubleday)

A bit smaller than usual at 7-by-10-inches.  This book has 95 pages of which 75 focus on the art, 23 of those being drawn self-portraits accompanying brief artist biography pages and another 50 being large reproductions of their paintings.  The rest are the several text pages of the introduction and mostly blank pages facing the art when some artist gets more than one page (though strangely, that scheme isn't followed in identical situations for some other artists . . . ).  All the art seems to have been used for Sci-Fi book covers and the nine double-page-spreads were probably wraparound covers as they all seem to remain 'o.k.' with the book's gutter.  Each image is captioned with the title of the book it graced, along with the name of the book's author or editor.  Many of these artists are never going to get their own art book, so it's great to have at least these various works saved in this collection. The artist's are: Ken Barr (3)**, John Berkey (2), Richard Corben (5), Kenneth Distler (2), Tony Fiyalko (4), Frank Frazetta (2)***, Tony Gleeson (4), Mike Hinge, Les Katz (2), Larry Kresek (5), Don Maitz (2), Esteban Maroto (2), Carlos Ochagavia (2), Richard Powers (2)**, Martin Rigo (2), David Stone (5), Ed Valigursky (2), Victor Valla (2), Boris Vallejo (5)*, Gary Viskupic (6), Michael Whelan (2)***, Jack Woolhiser (3) and James Yost (2).

* - Note that all of Boris's 'well-presented' pieces here are additionally found so in his own collections on The List.

** - Note that Powers, and Barr's 'well-presented' pieces here are not additionally found so in their own collections on The List.

*** - Note that Whelan, and Frazetta's 'well-presented' self-portrait pieces here have not additionally appeared so in any of their collections on The List, but their paintings here have.
