Spacecraft In Fact And Fiction

 [-BELOW THE LINE-] (by Harry Harrison & Malcolm Edwards). Another volume feeding on the Sci-Fi-interest-boom just after the surprise popularity of STAR WARS. Nowhere near as many opportunities to display spacecraft-art as you would want - and a few of those that can be found are black-&-white reproductions of color works. Lots of photographic exhibits of our planet's rocketry-past and journey to the Moon. So, you'll find 12 pages of two-or-more fiction illustration-drawings and then 26 more each featuring a large art-reproduction. Among the latter, nine images are allowed to spread over the book's central gutter and almost all remain satisfactory in that format. The substantial text has only a pittance devoted to artistry and, indeed, the captions can't be bothered to share an artist's identity half the time. Those artists getting 'well-presented' are: Emile Bayard, Chesley Bonestell (2), Howard V. Brown, Dick Calkins, Watson Charlton, Don Davis, Gustave Doré, Andrew Farmer, Chris Foss, Rick Guidice (2), Frank Hampson, Peter Jones**, Ralph McQuarrie (2), Chris Moore**, Hubert Rogers, Wesso, Tim White*, and UNKNOWN ARTIST (2).
