Doc Dave Winiewicz Frazetta Collection Catalog
                                             (2015 - Profiles In History)

Dave Winiewicz proved himself to be a shrewd original-art collector and it made quite a splash when what he had amassed was placed on the market.  They wanted to make their auction catalog really something special, to stand not only as a sterling presentation of the art pieces themselves, but use many of the items as a jumping-off-point to discuss why the work was important or highlight some bit of Frazetta-lore unknown to most of us.  By the idiosyncratic criteria of this site, some of their design choices drove down the presentation on our artbook List.  First, a significant portion of this 200 page book were long works turned sideways and then another 30 pages contained enlarged excerpts of the works on the facing page (a jarring presentation, though I realize that they could be considered as having better value over the alternative of just having blank space).  I would mention here that by making only 950 copies of these specially designed catalogs, far too few - given the clear outpouring of interest in Frazetta, they insured that the future price of the volume would be beyond the budget of many fans.  I don't think we'll see too many sales of them for less than $ 100 for a long time, if ever.  Because of that, this site will be keeping it out of our own Frazetta-book recommendation process.  With that said, let me share that you will find here 78 pages that feature a large reproduction of some art piece, along with another 20-or-so with multiple images.  Included in those 'well-presented' works are some by other artists that happened to also be among Winiewicz's holdings, namely, Gustave Baumann, Hannes Bok (2), John Caldwell, Tom Grindberg, Hank Ketcham, Roy G. Krenkel (4), Matt Masterson, Ralph Mayo, Mark Schultz, Al Williamson, and Cleveland L. Woodward.  Again, in keeping with the theme of adding to the Frazetta story, you will find more essay text pages here than you would expect from an auction catalog.  All the other Frazetta tomes that made it up on the The List here would be recommended before this volume, but if you had all of them, you would still find within 19 'well-presented' pieces of his that are not found 'well-presented' in any of them.
