Jim Warren: Painted Worlds (2001 - Paper Tiger)
108 pages of Jim Warren's work, out of the book's 112, and 102 of those feature large reproductions rather than grouping together two smaller images. That includes 11 instances where the art work is allowed to expand over the central gutter - while I don't think of that as a winning presentation, most of the works are still 'o.k.' in that format, though two flunk completely. While not confined to one style, his frequent use of photo-realistic surrealism has proven quite popular and there are instances where he reworks a provocative juxtaposition again & again in slightly different contexts, but it is a bit of fun to pick out why some versions work better, or not, in your eye. Nude figures are indicated a number of times, but always handled tastefully. The book begins with several pages of autobiographical introduction. The works are always accompanied by a captioned title, creation year, size (also in metric) along with the author's anecdote about it.
