Steve Rude Sketchbook
                                             (1989 - Kitchen Sink Press)

[-BELOW THE LINE-]   (edited by Eric Nesheim)   This is like flipping through Steve Rude's sketchbook while he's talking to you about what he was processing at the time.  Rude's voice is throughout the book, talking as if with a fellow artist, about how to grow to become a better artist.  His various explanations about what he was looking to accomplish with the various exercises displayed is fascinating.  Unfortunately only about a third of the book can be counted as having pages that 'present' pieces of art in a focused, uncluttered, fashion.  The rest are actual cramped sketchbook pages with all the practice work you would imagine them having - like a page of heads, 30 eyeballs, or a guy with his left arm redrawn in a number of different positions.
