Star Wars - The Art Of Dave Dorman (edited by Stephen D. Smith & Lurene Haines) In the early 1990s, Dark Horse Comics launched a series of new Star Wars stories which proved quite successful, due in no small part to having Dave Dorman's art grace most of the early covers. Here are gathered many of them from the first 5 or 6 years, along with other art he produced for projects relating to the famous movie series. In this 128-page book, 50-odd paintings are presented on the right pages, faced with a page carrying the identification of the piece, along with an anecdote, accompanied by sketches, roughs and/or, alternative versions. While I appreciate the relevant stories about the art, I think I'd rather see the rest of the facing page blank, rather than seeming to be so cluttered with these various hodge-podges of paraphernalia. One really nice feature is that while the book has three large pieces reproduced as acceptable double-page spreads, each piece is then presented again, held to one page, albeit smaller. Nine pages are given over to showing the painter's technique, tracking the creation of the book's wraparound cover. There's also plenty of introductory text elaborating Dorman's beginning art career and concurrent passion for Star Wars material, while finally bringing the two together with the Dark Horse projects. other Star Wars books Star Wars - The Art Of The Brothers Hildebrandt Star Wars - The Clone Wars - The Complete Season 2 pamphlet Star Wars - The Essential Chronology [BELOW THE LINE] Other FPG releases Beyond Fantasy - The Art Of Darrell K.
