The Art Of Star Wars Galaxy [vol 1]

     (edited by Gary Gerani)    In the ten years after the completion of the first of the Star Wars trilogies, Topps, the leading trading card company, arranged for a number of renowned genre artists to each create a franchise-related image to make a large 'pack' to put into release.  Afterwards, through their own Topps Comics imprint, they released this book displaying the art of the cards (and some 'extras' in introducing how the project came to be and promoting the upcoming volume covering a new pack).  So, this 128-page book delivers a large amount of art, most of which has not been reproduced elsewhere.  Specifically, three pages that gather multiple images together and 64 pages that put on display a large art-piece, usually in full-bleed fashion.  Some of those pages show art from the cards that were long, rather than tall, with eight of those allowing the art to lie across the distortion of the book's central gutter - none are ideal in that presentation, but only one out-&-out fails.  Anyway, each of the 'featured' pieces is faced with a page devoted to that artist (most in what I've termed an 'over-designed' fashion) with variously, narratives about & from the artists, descriptive character quotes from the scripts & other sources, thumbnails of their other pieces or preliminaries, associated film stills & their captions, underlaid photos or renditions of artist themselves, and underlaid mono-color renditions of the art's subjects.  The 'well-presented' found here are:  Kyle Baker, Bret Blevins, Ted Boonthanakit, June Brigman, Paul Chadwick, Howard Chaykin**, Mark Chiarello, Geof Darrow, Steve Ditko, Dave Dorman*, George Evans, Steve Fastner**, Keith Giffen, Jean Giraud, Dan Goozee, Paul Gulacy**, Bo Hampton, Scott Hampton, Michael Kaluta, Gil Kane, Cam Kennedy, Dave Keown, Karl Kessel, Sam Keith, David Lapham, Rich Larson**, Mike Lemos, Ralph McQuarrie, Esteban Maroto, Michael Mignola, Jerome Moore, Jon J.
