Heavy Metal - 25 Years Of Classic Covers (by John Workman) Presenting not only all the covers for this 25-year period, but also the back-covers that were artwork presentations. Also, covers that were wraparounds are here held to across a single page, never bridging the gutter. 106 of the book's 112 are dedicated to the art, with a few photograph covers and a bit of text (and one page indexing the artists) taking up the remainder. Only 23 of those pages are dominated by a large reproduction leaving the rest to host two to five images. Everything is captioned, identifying the particular issue and the piece's artist. Many of the pages also have an anecdote about one of the artworks in view. One would wish for more 'well-presented' pieces, but this collection does make for a bright, eye-popping book. The artists that get the most featured presentation are: Montxo Algora, Liz Bijl, Simon Bisley, Jim Burns (2)*, Clyde Caldwell, Richard Lon Cohen, Olivia DeBerardinis, Wayne Duford, Frank Frazetta**, Greg Hildebrandt (3)***, Joe Jusko, Milo Manara, Chris Moore*, Luis Royo (3), Sanjulian, Broeck Steadman, Jon Townley and John Workman (2). * - Note that all of Burns and Moore's pieces here are better presented in their own collections further up The List. ** - Note that this version of Frazetta's piece is not 'well-presented' in any of his own collections on The List. *** - Note that in regards to Hildebrandt's 'well-presented' pieces here, some, but not all, can be found so in his own collections on The List.
