Masters Of Science-Fiction And Fantasy Art
                                             (2011 - Rockport)

(Curated by Karen Haber)  Thicker/heaver than some others, but it takes a lot of pages to pull together this comprehensive an overview of "the state of the art" practitioners.  28 artists are profiled here with a number of examples of their work along with commentary & quotes dealing with their careers, creativity, materials and working methods.  Many pieces are examined in detail, sometimes with number of prior steps presented to show the progression of their creation.  The artists are grouped into 3 larger sections called "Combined Traditional And Digital Tools", "Digital Tools And Techniques" and "Traditional Tools And Techniques".  There are a good number of striking long horizontal works that are well kept on one page, there being no double-page spreads here.  Unfortunately, even though there are sections devoted to Marta Dahlig, Avi Katz and Stephan Martiniere, none of their finished product examples get a full-page treatment.  Otherwise, all of the others get at least one 'well-presented' work. Those artists are: Brom (2), Jim Burns (4), Kinuko Y. Craft (4), Daniel DosSantos (3), Bob Eggleton (3), Scott Fischer (2), Donato Giacola (4), Rebecca Guay (2), James Gurney (6), Bruce Jenson, Camille Kuo (5), Todd Lockwood (4), Don Maitz (3)*, Gregory Manchess (4), Tomasz Maronski (4), Peter Meseldzija (2), Pavel Mikailenko (5), Terese Nielsen (4), Galen Pang (2), Joe Picacio (3), Dave Seeley (3), Greg Spelanka (6), Shuan Tan (3), Charles Vess (2) and Ken Wong.

* - Note that the 'well-presented' pieces here by Maitz, can additionally be found so in his own collections on The List.
