The Art Of Perry Peterson (2023 - Illustrated Press)
At 9-by-12 inches, 224 high-quality pages is just a bit more than desired on our 'manageability'-scale, but good to see that so much of that is art, namely, 183 pages featuring a single full-page illustration or exhibiting a long piece at its best (not across the gutter) along with another in the space left over. There's also another 32 pages with two-or-more somewhat smaller images gathered together. While a majority of the displays appear to be the original artwork, a significant number of them are excellent reproductions of how they appeared in the magazines, adorning their stories (with the titles, blurbs and the first paragraphs of their tales). There is a healthy biography whose pages also carry examples of Peterson's sketches & preliminaries. Captioning of the pieces usually informs us when and in what magazines the work appeared in. The artist's life was cut short at the age of only 50, his absence seeming to have dampened what attention would have survived him, despite his leaving behind a very large volume of illustration of beautiful young people amidst all the narrative drama they can get up to (family, romance, health, sport, exploration, war, infidelity, betrayal, survival, pets, voyages, schemes, heists, and brawls).
