The Art Of Allen Anderson (by David Saunders) On the spine of this book, you will find "THE ART OF ALLEN ANDERSON", but nowhere else in-and-around this volume does it appear. However, that title *is* the way it is officially listed. Anyway, my understanding is that there are very few original paintings remaining of Anderson's work. This presents a dozen of them, and then another 178 full-page reproductions of his published art, almost all of that covers (and almost all of those being for pulp magazines). There are another 19 pages that pull multiple images together. That's 209 art pages in a 224-page book - not bad. One thread to pull at is that it does seem a bit obsessive-compulsive to gather all these covers into separate genre groupings - Detective - Spicy - Westerns - Sports - Romance - Aviation - Jungle - Science Fiction - Comics. I mean, at the cost of presentational diversity. I guess that wouldn't usually present a problem for many artists, and their careers, but here we find Anderson with *85* pages of western covers pulled all together (that's more than a third of the whole book !). Everything is captioned with the publications' names and dates. other Illustrated Press releases The Life And Art Of Mead Schaeffer Reynold Brown - A Life In Pictures SEND US A COMMENT (goes via e-mail - all info kept anonymous, but comment itself may be shared . . .) |
