The Art Of Dean Cornwell (by Daniel Zimmer) At 9-by-12 inches, 224 high-quality pages is just a bit on the hefty side, but good to see that so much that is art, namely, 186 pages featuring a large illustration reproduction and another 23 with two-or-more smaller images together. The rest is a healthy overview of Cornwell's art career. Do know that Cornwell considered himself first & foremost a muralist, so a significant portion of this book, nearly a quarter, is devoted to drawings, preliminaries and studies executed in service of the murals he created throughout America. That still leaves painting after painting, a huge display of his posters and contemporary & historical illustration. Most of the illustrations are captioned with their use, including magazine, publication-year, story-title & author (if known), as well as the medium, size and image-source. Amid the text are placed one 'well-presented' piece each from Charles Dana Gibson and Harvey Dunn. other Illustrated Press releases The Life And Art Of Mead Schaeffer Reynold Brown - A Life In Pictures SEND US A COMMENT (goes via e-mail - all info kept anonymous, but comment itself may be shared . . .) |
