The Little Book Of Pin-Up: Elvgren (by Dian Hanson) While still not my ideal, this recently released, much needed, book of Elvgren's works easily scores as the best available collection on The List. It's only 5-by-7-inches in size and a handful of pages are given to inexplicably small painting/drawing reproductions, pictures of the models being posed or other photographs. Among its 193 pages, you'll find 154 that feature a worthwhile image and another five with a couple of smaller images sharing the page. There are three double-page-spreads, all of which flunk out with the central split distortion. Also there's a four-page biography that is then repeated in German & French. All the pieces are captioned with the title and creation year. Several of his nude works are sprinkled throughout. Note that on the spine appears just his name, GIL ELVGREN. So, I'd say grab this volume and then decide how much you want to get larger presentations that are thrown into his other collections.
