Comic Book Artist # 22
                                             (2002 - TwoMorrows Publishing)

[-BELOW THE LINE-]     This issue of the magazine focuses almost entirely on the creators involved with the Gold Key comics imprint of Western Publishing.  The front & back covers are formulated as a homage to a typical Gold Key comic, with the iconic logo & trade dress in the upper left corner and the cover image replicated on the back as a "pin-up".  Inside, they ran interviews & features on the artists Alberto Giolitti, Russ Manning, Tom McKimson, Paul Norris, Mike Royer, Jesse Santos, Dan Spiegle, George Wilson, and Nevio Zecarra (as well as thumbnail profiles of a few more).  It has quite a few drawings on display of promotional images or comic panels.  Unfortunately, there are numerous instances of some color image being presented in black-&-white throughout.  When all is said & done, the amount of included artwork (while fun) wouldn't be enough to get the book up on The List, even if its stapled-spine magazine format didn't keep it from doing so.  Only 20 out of 129 pages could be said to feature the art itself, though most of the heavy text pages feature a small sample or two.  17 of those 20 do feature a large reproduction.  Those 'well-presented' artists are:  Alberto Giolitti, Russ Manning (3), Alden McWilliams, Paul Murry, Marshall Rogers, Mike Royer, Jesse Santos (5), Dan Spiegle (3), and Bruce Timm.
