The Great Comic Book Artists vol.1 & 2 [ - BELOW THE LINE - ] (by Ron Goulart) In the first book, 60 artists are profiled, each with a one-page biography and a one-page example of their work. The examples are either a page of sequential art or a comic cover. Unfortunately, the covers are all black-&-white reproductions of the colorful covers themselves, so nothing in this book gets counted as the 'art' we are tracking, by my criteria. A lot of fun reading, but I'm also put off by what I think are poor black-&-white reproductions of the color comic pages. In the 2nd volume, it's 56 more artists and I guess the reproductions are a little cleaner and fewer covers have been used as the single example of an artist's work, which seems appropriate given it's the comic work that is gathering point for them all. Again, I love the information on all of them, but I think a better art choice, presented crisp & clear, could have been made for almost every artist.
