Blacklight - The World Of L.B. Cole
                                             (2015 - Fantagraphics Books)

At 13-by-9-inches, this book's 272 pages are almost twice as much as would allow it to be easily manageable.  However, those too-many pages are well employed, with 178 of them featuring large reproductions of Cole's comic covers or the original works (most are full-page, a few handfuls full-bleed).  Among these is a small number of double-page-spreads that all seem to accommodate the gutter o.k.  Then there's another 77 pages that have two to four covers presented together.  As this will probably be the only dedicated collection of L.B. Cole's work for some time to come, it's good that a healthy number of pages detail what is known about his career & life.  There's even a couple of covers that were completed, but never published, for reasons endemic to that roiling industry.  Again, though the volume is too big and unwieldy, the images are fine, striking, bright & colorful.
