The Art Of Jay Anacleto (2002) A nice slim volume of full-page works on a non-white background. A significantly better art-presentation than it's sibling below, but not ideal. Let's talk first of the ten color pieces each followed by a page of multiple black-&-white excerpts from the work. Thankfully, there's another 21 pages without the same kind of redundancy, as well as three pages of smaller images from the artist's sketchbooks. Almost all of the 31 large reproductions are accompanied by commentary about the work and what use it was put to. There's also a five-page section showing a single work from idea to completion, including the coloring, which seems to always be completed by another artist (and every such colorist is captioned throughout this collection). Most of the work is dramatic fantasy character-studies that were used for covers of comic works.
Athena Inc. - Agents Roster (2002) (by Brian Haberlin) The conceit here is that you have picked up a slender file-folder which contains a roster of the Manhunter Agents, whose story is found in the comic series of ATHENA INC. Mostly, there is a full-page art-piece of each included agent, accompanied by some stats and narrative, with commentary from the comic's in-universe design character. There is a sketchbook section of several pages. So you get 20 full-page character studies invested with action-drama and there are two more unfortunately turned sideways. Two pages of the sketchbook section are collections of figure sketches. The rest of the 48 pages are the 'stat' sheets and other 'exhibits'. Jay Anacleto's pieces are enjoyable, but it feels like a lot more work went into all the 'dressing' around them than was really worth it. It all still feels skimpy.
