Pin-Up - The Illegitimate Art
(2004 - DH Press (Dark Horse))

(by Jim Silke)   Ostensibly, this is a light biography of artist Jim Silke and a discourse on the larger metaphysical realm in which Pin-Up Art's worth can be 'justified' (if not well-reputed).  Out of the book's 96 pages, 51 sport large reproductions of Silke's work and another nine have multiple images.  Then know that another 17 pages have large reproductions of *other* artist's classic pin-up art pieces (along with two more pages with two-or-more images gathered).  Unfortunately, three more large works by Silke are turned sideways.  All works are captioned with the artist's name, use and copyright.  The chapters are entitled Eye Candy, Midnight Frolics, Les Girls, Paper Dolls, Goddesses, Bedtime Babes, Bare Naked Ladies and Devil Women.  The icons displayed are such as Bridget Bardot, Halle Berry, Clara Bow, Claudia Cardinale, Linda Darnell, Bettie Page, Elke Sommer, Gene Tierney, Solome, Red Sonya, Dejah Thoris, Vampirella* and Silke's own character, "Spicy" Saunders.  Classic pin-up style nudity abounds.  The other artists being 'well-presented' are:  Rolf Armstrong (3), Enoch Bolles (3), Edwin Georgi, John LaGatta, Al Parker, George Petty (4)***, Jon Whitcomb, and Coby Whitmore (4).

* - Note that Silke's three large Vampirella pieces here do *not* appear in the ART OF VAMPIRELLA books.

*** - Note that in regards to Petty's 'well-presented' pieces here, some, but not all, can additionally be found so in his own collection on The List.
