Maxfield Parrish (Cutler & Goffman)
                                             (1993 - Crescent Books)

(by Laurence S. Cutler, Judy Goffman and The American Illustrators Gallery)  At 14.5 by 10.5 inches, this book is at the upper limit of easy 'handlability', but this slim volume is a great format in which to study the 88 of 112 pages that are given over to really large reproductions of the artist's work.  20 of those pages are presenting 10 paintings large enough to substantially cross the book's center gutter. While none of those works are ideal split that way, they are all very acceptable (mostly due to the works being landscapes).  The paintings are grouped into the chapters, Book Illustration, Magazine Illustrations, Art Prints And Calendar Illustrations, Landscapes and Murals And Miscellanea.  There isn't all that much text, but what is in the introduction, and the lead-ins to each of the chapters, is direct and to the point.  There's even one well-presented landscape by his father Stephen Parrish.
