The Brothers Hildebrandt - A Book About The Artists
                                             (1978 - self-published by Feldman & Taylor)

[-BELOW THE LINE-]    (by Mark Feldman & John Taylor)    This would be the first collection of Hildebrandt art, predating by mere months the mainstream Ballantine book (some sellers erroneously list this publisher as Ballantine Books, maybe because their copyright is registered here with so many of the works).  The Brothers Hildebrandt were the featured artists at the Maryland Funnybook Festival of Summer 1978 and this booklet was produced in association with that.  It is 24 slick leaves stapled at the center and folded over for 48 pages with images front, back & inside of the added outer cover.  That all robs the book of a flat spine and pushes it 'below the line', but even if it was on The List, it still would have scored pretty low, as a significant number of non-counted images are color paintings presented in grey-scale.  So, you find here 25 pages dominated by the 'well-presented' art, each featuring a large reproduction (two of those for the double-page-spread laid agreeably at the center).  Also an additional three pages gathering together a couple of images each.  Acknowledging that they missed a couple, most everything is captioned with a title, creation-year, dimensions, medium, use it was put to and which of the twins did it (if a solo work).  You will be interested in the interviews with each of the artists individually and the number of photographs.  Obviously, this book scores below the other Hildebrandt collections on The List, but it does display 16 works not found 'well-presented' in those books, though most of those are crisp pencil preliminaries for paintings you are familiar with.
