Cosmos
                                             (1980 - Random House)

[BELOW THE LINE]    (by Carl Sagan)   This is the thick companion volume to Sagan's acclaimed television-series.  One might think it a good repository of the astronomical art seen on the shows and that does seem to have found its niche in the volume, but nowhere near enough to elevate the book up onto our list of art books.  Sagan's text is the star here, more than three-quarters of the book's 380 pages featuring it, though a small handful of those could be said to include a small art image. Those text pages also include photographs, diagrams & maps and another 44 pages feature just them. Which leaves us with only 32 pages dedicated to the art we want, 19 of them displaying large reproductions and the rest collecting multiple images.  The artists here getting 'well-presented' are:  Don Davis (2), Don Dixon, David Egge (3), David Hardy (2)*, Jon Lomberg (4), Ann Norcia, Adolf Schaller (4) and UNKNOWN (2).

* - Note that of the 'well-presented' pieces here by Hardy, neither can additionally be found so in his own collection up on The List.
