The Art Of Game Characters
                                             (2005 - Harper Design / Ilex)

(by Leo Hartas)   This book's chapters are:  Game Cuties, Big Biceps, Sexy And Sassy, Mad-Bad-And Dangerous To Know, Femme Fatales, The Reluctant Hero, Fascinating Flaws, Mainly By Cunning, It Could Be You, Baby Face, Behind The Mask, Do You Speak Elvish, Monster Mash, Oddballs and Bosses From Hell.  152 of the book's 192 pages could be said to be dominated by the art.  95 of those each sport a large reproduction of some singular creation while the rest are assemblies of multiple images.  A majority here are character studies, but there is no shortage of exciting promotional paintings and 'action shots' from the games themselves.  The remaining pages are either more diagrammatic in their instructional mission or contain the narrative where the different aspects of character creation are discussed.  I am disappointed in the crediting.  While I understand that the digital images are the product of many people and are then identified here simply by the production studio, but the plethora of promotional art and conceptual sketches, that would clearly have each been created by their single artists, are also not identified with any artist's name either.  There were two 'well-presented' artists, Richard Albon and Masami Kochi (2) whose interviews clearly identified them as the creators of the pieces that accompanied their words, but all the rest have to be registered here as being by UNKNOWN.
