Alphonse Mucha (Sarah Mucha) (edited by Sarah Mucha (the artist's granddaughter-in-law)) The List recommends both ALPHONSE MUCHA MASTERWORKS and DRAWINGS OF MUCHA before this one, but this is a good book to get in addition to those, because if you do already have them, then you'll get an even better presentation of six items that were well-presented in them and another 40 new art-pieces well-presented here. With that said, I would say that almost all the paintings reproduced here are, in my opinion, just slightly washed-out. In total, 97 of the 159 pages here are dominated by the art, with 56 of those being pages dedicated each to a single piece. There is one double-page spread that is O.K. and I like that the huge Slav Epic canvases presented here are all each held to a single page. The 'non-art' pages are given to photographs, jewelry, decorative detailing and a number of essays written by various contributors concerning the significant segments of his career. The captions provide for each piece a title, origination year, medium and size, as well as usually having an expository paragraph about the piece itself. In the most general analysis, I would say that if you are picking up only one book about this artist, this one is the best choice, so far.
