Ken Landau: The Cosmopolitan Cuthbert (1972 - Greenleaf Classics)
[-BELOW THE LINE-] (cover partially withheld) Not appropriate for children or adolescents. Note that these books were published under the pseudonym VERN KENT. 'Cuthbert' was the title character of a comic strip that Landau was developing, and the interweb has several examples of those G-rated efforts, though I'm not sure if they were ultimately published. Greenleaf Classics was a publisher that focused mostly on adult-paperbacks. Landau took on the alias and Cuthbert was re-worked to be a pornographic comic. This volume was one of three produced in the series by the partnership. To be clear, most exhibits in this collection are of sequential-art, works turned sideways, or sequential-art turned sideways. Out of 178 pages, by our lights, we can count only 32 that could be considered featured, stand-alone, cartoon compositions. Think of these works as being most closely associated with what are now discussed as 'Tijuana Bibles' and while clearly tongue-in-cheek, these drawings (in a very loose, juvenile, style) are sexually explicit to the Nth degree. So, these books should be kept put away from minors (and, speaking to their merit, I would say most adults too . . .).
