Dirty Pictures - The Naughty Art Of The '30s Pulps #1 & #2
                                             (1991 - Aircel Comics)

#1  [-BELOW THE LINE-]    These releases were really just comic-books with single page illustrations instead of sequential art.  With 32 pages each, they seem very slight packages.  They are focusing on spot drawings utilized in the pulp magazines published as SPICY (Spicy Detective, Spicy Western, etc . . .), or later, SPEED.  The nudity, mostly threatened females rendered immediately topless by their menacers, might surprise some, the magazines having been frequently displayed for general consumption (though in some regions had to be sold from 'under the counter').  It all still seems pretty tame by current standards.  With material on the front & back covers, as well as the inner leaves, this first one has 30 pages of 'well-presented' single images, one page with two images, and three with the longer image turned sideways.  Some pages might have been considered double-page-spreads, but are exhibited here as clearly separated halves (as they probably were in the originals, as well).  Artist identification within is only if there is a signature and you recognize it.  Those we see here are:  Hermann (a comics ad), Charles L. McCann, Harry Parkhurst (4), Max Plaisted (2), Paul H. Stone (5), and UNKNOWN ARTIST (17).

#2  [-BELOW THE LINE-]    This second book scores pretty much as the first, with 30 'well-presented' pieces, but note there are five more pieces turned sideways here.  The single-page introduction does more in talking about who was producing the exhibited art.  Those identifications of the 'well-presented' art would be:  Lee MacLeod (comics ad), Charles L. McCann (2), Terry Pallot (comics ad), Harry Parkhurst (3), Max Plaisted (9), Joseph Sokoli (4), M.C. Wyman (comics ad), and UNKNOWN ARTIST (9).
