Vargas (Austin) (by Reid Austin and the artist) As the 1981 German book pictured above carries the same Austin/Vargas byline, I'm going to assume that it is same book. While the text here is the most extensive Vargas biography I've read yet, the collection of art leaves a lot to be desired. All the color paintings exhibited in the 40-odd pages of that biography are presented in black-&-white. After that, there's almost another 20 pages that the artist's color works get the same short-shrift. Ten images are displayed as double-page spreads and almost half flunk-out that way. Ultimately, the 128-page book has 40 pages with large reproductions of the art and another 18 with a-couple-or-more smaller images. Everything is captioned with title or use, origination-year, size and who modeled for it, if known. As you might imagine, there is nudity throughout the book. All the other Vargas-focused collections currently on The List rank higher than this one, but there are 13 new 'well-presented' pieces that can be found only here (as well as two others that get an even better presentation than before).
