1000 Record Covers
                                             (1995 - Taschen)

[-BELOW THE LINE-]   (compiled by Michael Ochs)  This is a compact, but still too thick, compendium of published record-album covers, far too few of them being not-photographic artwork.  Only 102 could be said to be such artwork pages out of the book's 768 (and only 40 of those are single large images dominating their 7-by-5 inch page, rather than two images on a page).  There are nearly 20 text pages that expand on the impact of record covers and the musical milieu of the decades that the collection is broken into.  And then that text is repeated twice more, in German and French. The captions identify the musical artist and album name, with release year and design & art credits, if known (obviously, that's a lot of information and spelling errors have crept in . . .).  Among both the paintings and photographs there is some nudity and a bit of salaciousness, but these are images that have flitted through public display for years.  The visual artists 'well-presented' here are:  Bob Abrams, David Band, Braldt Bralds, Keith Breeden, Nick Caruso, Bob Cato, John Cleveland, John Collier, Dennas Davis, Roger Dean*, Dickinson, Rod Dyer, M.C. Escher (2)*, Loring Eutemay, Joe Garnett, Richard Germinaro, H.R. Giger, Barry Godber, Patrick Harbron, Flournoy Holmes (2), Chris Hopkins, Ioannis, Edwin Landseer, Chris Moore, Joe Mora, Patrick Nagel, Fabio Nicoli, David O'Connor, World B. Omes, Terry Pastor, Peter Phillip, Rabon, Harry Rossit, Paul Slater, Cat Stevens, Ed Thrasher, Norman Walker, Jim Warren, Paul Whitehead, David Willardson and UNKNOWN (7).

* - note that Dean's & Escher's pieces are better presented in their own collections on The List.
